Which country holiday system does the school follow?

    A
Huitong Shenzhen Campus will arrange the school calendar per the regulations of the Chinese education administration.
  • Q

    What is the school’s curriculum?

    A
Our global curriculum is at the heart of our Huitong education. It integrates best practices from some of the world’s leading curriculum systems with Chinese and English standards underlying these requirements. Our curriculum combines the national education curriculum standards and requirements with the US’ elite private school curriculum system (American Independent School Curriculum) and the UK’s tutorial system (British advisory system). These aspects are integrated with an inquiry-based teaching approach that focuses on experiential, project-based learning (PBL). Our curriculum uses a bilingual teaching method.

Our program for early learning students is based on the Reggio Emilia approach which believes that children have an amazing potential to learn. This potential is cultivated to create meaningful learning experiences developed from children’s interests.

Compulsory education for 1st to 9th grade students uses a curriculum that complies with the Chinese curriculum standards of compulsory education (CCS) while adopting a variety of international methods of teaching. Some of the best practices and principles we have adopted from around the world include Singapore’s mathematics curriculum and the US’ Next Generation Science Standards (N.G.S.S.).

The middle school curriculum, based primarily on courses offered at top private high schools in the United States, draws from other international courses to support students’ academic and professional work. Students are also given personalized, one-on-one guidance from advisors to support their goal of future global study, whether they plan on attending university in the United States, the United Kingdom, or another country.
  • Q

What languages will the school use for teaching?

    A
Huitong School is committed to cultivating local leaders and partners with a global vision. Therefore, we expect Huitong students to develop an academic proficiency in English while forming a solid foundation in their mother tongue. Shenzhen campus provides students with an immersive bilingual campus environment so they can learn and grow from both Chinese and Western cultures.

Considering the fact that children generally have a robust family and social environment in their mother tongue, children at the early learning stage will be predominantly taught and communicated to in English while on campus.

In lower school, we adopt a balanced bilingual ratio of teaching. Chinese and mathematics are taught in Chinese while other courses are taught either in English or in a bilingual setting.

In middle school, other than Chinese classes, all classes will be taught in English to further support work related to global university applications.
  • Q

How many students are there per class and what is the student: teacher ratio?

    A
Each early learning class has one native English-speaking teacher, two bilingual teachers, and a nurse to support children's language transition.

At full capacity, the school's average teacher-student ratio will be 1:9.
