Built on our values and carried around our mission, our curriculum is purposefully crafted to develop our graduate profile traits in all students. These are the scholarly, creative, articulate, impactful and well-rounded young people who will be equipped for the exciting and challenging years ahead, the traits who will have the knowledge, skills and character to make a positive impact in the world. This is why Huitong is the School of the Future.
The model of education that we have developed has already been proven through several cohorts of stellar college and university outcomes. Our curriculum approach is not just inspiring and philosophically sound, it delivers results and optimises our students’ life opportunities.
The Huitong curriculum is best explained according to three categories of programme - Academic, Signature, and Studios.
The model of education that we have developed has already been proven through several cohorts of stellar college and university outcomes. Our curriculum approach is not just inspiring and philosophically sound, it delivers results and optimises our students’ life opportunities.
“A liberal-arts education offers an expansive intellectual grounding in all kinds of humanistic inquiry. By exploring issues, ideas and methods across the humanities and the arts, and the natural and social sciences, you will learn to read critically, write cogently and think broadly. These skills will elevate your conversations in the classroom and strengthen your social and cultural analysis; they will cultivate the tools necessary to allow you to navigate the world's most complex issues.”
—Princeton University
Huitong's academic curriculum is part of the rich tradition of liberal-arts education upheld by world-leading institutions such as Princeton University (whose definition of the liberal arts, and explanation of its benefits, really resonates with us). We see this approach as being even more important, pertinent and powerful than ever before. Far from being supplanted by technological advances - AI included - the liberal arts approach gives students a grounding in vital knowledge, while allowing their skills to flourish as they deepen their learning in specific subject domains and interdisciplinary projects.
The meaningful, weighty content of our academic curriculum is taught and learnt in motivating, inspiring and dynamic ways by our faculty members. Innovative pedagogy is seen in every classroom, and at all ages. Lessons are carefully designed to incorporate physical movement, compelling imagery, student discussion and debate, intriguing and memorable stimuli, handwritten work, and multiple and varied tasks. Teacher-focused lectures with silent, passive audiences occur rarely in Huitong lessons. We want pupils to be engaged, vocal and active - and to remember what they have learnt.
It is this sort of learning environment that inspires boys and girls, so that they wake in the morning and are eager to get to school, to be with their teachers and classmates, and to work hard, knowing that the results of their efforts will be fulfilling and fruitful.
“There is the old, which is tried and tested, and the new, which promises change. Some schools, eager to appear modern, throw out traditional approaches in favour of the latest trends. They embrace novelty for its own sake, forgetting that the fundamental practices of education - like deep reading, acquiring knowledge, and understanding history - cannot be replaced.”
Most of what we do at Huitong is distinctive, but certain meticulously-designed activities are so out-of-the-ordinary that they deserve their own section of the curriculum. These make up our Signature Programme, which includes unique and ambitious enterprises like City-as-Classroom, Interdisciplinary Projects, Huitong Global History, and Huitong Survival Discovery. These are meaningful and well-resourced ventures that ensure memorable, educational experiences for all participants.
Have you ever pursued a regular activity with passion? Something that brings joy and excitement, and motivates your whole day-to-day experience? Huitong Studios exists to provide our pupils with such opportunities! We offer more than 200 after-school courses (plus weekends and during holiday breaks). Everything you can imagine - coding, design, individual and team sports, music ensembles, debate, drama, strategic thinking, entrepreneurship - there is something for everyone. We are here to support pupils in finding at least one pursuit they genuinely connect with, something that gets them up in the morning, full of anticipation for the day ahead.
Just imagine: each student gets to “order” from the Studios menu, hand-picking the perfect blend of activities that fits their unique interests and goals. It is often in the Studios domain where character develops - how to be a team-player, build resilience, and show leadership - and it is where passions are ignited and talents flourish.
Rather than getting in the way of academic study, we find that strong Studios engagement is complementary. We can't help noticing that our highest-achieving academics are typically our most active Studios participants.
The ELC’s Academic Programme nurtures children’s holistic development through interconnected learning domains that align with Huitong’s Graduate Profile. Within this system, our Signature Programme – unique, interdisciplinary project-based experience – offers children opportunities to connect their personal interests with meaningful real-world themes. It is where knowledge meets wonder, and structure meets discovery.
The Double Helix of Structure and Exploration
This transdisciplinary programme supports children in building an understanding of how the world works – across Science, Geography, and cultural perspectives. With the support of educators, they develop key skills like observation, questioning, and reasoning, laying the foundation for scientific thinking and global awareness.
Dynamic and powerful experiences in the city inspire, educate, and enable children to be responsible and empathetic members of both their local and global communities. With content emanating from the Our World & Beyond project or a theme that the children are exploring, the city can be transformed into an engaging classroom.
These teach essential skills for thriving in nature, with focus on water sourcing, shelter building, food foraging, and navigation. Children learn tracking, plant and animal recognition, and the understanding of habitats. Through outdoor exploration and observation, they develop knowledge, fondness for, and a deep understanding of the natural world.

Here, students can explore new interests and develop their love of non-academic pursuits during after-school hours in, for example, robotics, the performing arts, visual design, team and individual sports. These senior-level experiences are often enriched by partnerships with industry professionals, university professors, and access to public platforms for showcases, performances, and competitions.
Summer School & Study Trips
Domestic and international exchange programmes, university visits, research camps, and service learning opportunities all feature in our Studios provision. These vacation experiences deepen academic interests and global understanding, and can play their part in some students' college applications.
Our senior academic programme is the culmination of our liberal-arts approach, and prepares students for the kinds of curriculums they will find at top English-speaking universities and colleges. And it helps all pupils to build a balanced portfolio, with those destinations in mind. A future maths major can study philosophy alongside their algebra and calculus; a humanities specialist can maintain scientific or artistic interests. In any event, each girl or boy will accumulate evidence of expansive learning that makes them stand out from the crowd of typical college applicants from typical schools. This programme consists of courses in three categories - General, Advanced and Prime - which give them a broad foundation, academic challenge and sufficient public examination grades, and the opportunity for scholarly, college-level study.
